Number of tourists visiting Azerbaijan in 2008 increased 39 percent and reached unprecedented 1,5 million people.
In year 2007 the number of tourist was slightly over 1 million. We are expecting the number of tourists to reach 3 million people within the next 5-6 years, said Garayev. In general Azeri tourism industry is coping with growing number of foreign visitors. New 52 tourism establishments was opened in 2008. Most of the visitors from CIS countries are citizens of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Georgia. From Muslim countries are Iran, Jordan and Bahrain. From Europe most of the visitors come from Germany, Austria, Bulgaria, Finland etc.
Quite a lot of tourists come from South America, just from Colombia 364 tourists visited Baku.
