Austrian embassy to open in Azerbaijan soon
"Austria, which will be non-permanent member of the UN Security Council in 2009-2010, is ready to contribute to the resolution of the Karabakh conflict", said secretary general of the Austrian Foreign Ministry Johannes Kirle, according to AzTV channel.

Noting that the bilateral relations have been developing intensively since 1992, Kirle said Austria supports efforts of Azerbaijan on the peaceful resolution of the Karabakh conflict. "Our task of a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council will be the strengthening of the role of the international law. During armed conflicts our government always tended to protect children and civilians, prohibit mass termination weapon. I would like to note that there are lots of frozen conflicts in the world, including the Karabakh conflict. We support stability in the South Caucasus and we are ready to contribute to the conflict resolution", said he.

As for Azerbaijan's role in ensuring Europe's energy security, Kirle highly appreciated position of official Baku on the implementation of the Nabucco gas pipeline.

"Austria plays a leading role in the Nabucco project. We have long been working at this project. The gas crisis showed to the Central and Eastern European states that it is necessary to diversify routes of energy sources transportation. We hope that this project will create conditions for deepening relations between Azerbaijan and EU as the gas pipeline is a priority project of not only the European Union, as the pipeline is a priority project not only of the European states but also the European Union", noted he.

Kirle also said the issue of opening the embassy of Austria in Azerbaijan will be settled soon. He said he intends to visit Baku soon.
