Authorities in Azerbaijan took decision to rename alcohol beverages previously marketed as cognac to brandy. Changes have been introduced to local law on ‘Winegrowing and Winemaking’.
Changes have been initiated by Azeri producers of this strong alcohol beverage that are planning to sell their products outside Azerbaijan market. According to Profnavigator.ru authorities realized that spirit beverages named ‘cognac’ are produced just in some CIS countries and in France, while other European countries use the term ‘brandy’. Azeri cognac is well known outside Azerbaijan and is one of its national symbols. Many tourists buy it as a souvenir. New amendments to Azeri legislation are intended to comply with international laws.
